I was about to start painting when my wife needed a lift to the doctors. As it looked like I was in for a bit of a wait I grabbed an 8b pencil and a sketchbook to pass the time sitting in the surgery car park. I found this scene on my phone and knocked out a very quick sketch of a view along the River Avon in Stratford. Once again, proving a theory that sometimes a ten minute sketch can produce something good even though I say so myself!
When we got home, I decided to paint the same scene in watercolour but to try and just use a single colour, Payne's Grey. I did give in and put a couple of splashes of Indigo in to break things up and a little Hooker's Green but overall it was an interesting exercise in creating tones from a limited pallete.
